Pink October at TP Greece: Building Habits of Prevention That Last

Every October, pink ribbons remind us of something that matters all year long: breast cancer awareness and the importance of prevention.

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women worldwide. Knowing more about breast health, recognizing changes in our bodies and following recommended screening guidelines can help us make informed decisions about our health. Early detection matters, and regular check-ups and conversations with healthcare professionals are important steps in looking after ourselves.

At TP Greece, we believe that well-being should never take a back seat. For more than a decade, we have supported initiatives that raise awareness, encourage early detection and help our people make informed choices about their health.

This year, we continued this commitment through our Pink October Awareness Panel, held for the third consecutive year. Guided by the message “Build to Last,” we brought together healthcare professionals, cancer support representatives and our community to talk about prevention, emotional well-being and the importance of building habits that last beyond October.

Build to Last: Making prevention a habit

Between busy schedules and everyday responsibilities, it can be easy to put our own health on hold. Build to Last is a reminder to make prevention part of our routine, rather than something we think about only during Pink October.

At TP Greece, we believe awareness should go hand in hand with action. In collaboration with Affidea, we offered 1,000 breast ultrasound examinations to TP employees and another 1,000 to people outside our organization, bringing the total to 2,000 examinations. Through this initiative, we aimed to make breast health checks accessible to more people and encourage them to prioritize their health.

Because building lasting habits starts with awareness, but it takes consistent action to make them part of everyday life.

Beyond physical health: The power of support

Taking care of ourselves goes beyond physical health. A cancer diagnosis can bring uncertainty, difficult emotions and questions that extend far beyond medical treatment. Having someone to talk to, access psychological support and a network of people who understand can make a meaningful difference.

With the support of doctoranytime, our Pink October Awareness Panel welcomed

  • Dr. Eyfrosyni Panopoulou, Mastologist,
  • Tania Kourtidou, Person-Centred Psychotherapist, and
  • representatives of the K.E.F.I. Athens Cancer Patients, Volunteers, Friends and Doctors Association.

The discussion was moderated by Dimitra Aggelopoulou, Vice President at TP Greece, member of the TP Women Committee and a breast cancer survivor.

Drawing on their professional knowledge and personal experiences, the participants explored breast health, the importance of early detection and the emotional challenges that can accompany a cancer diagnosis. They also highlighted the role of family members, friends and caregivers, who offer support through appointments, treatment and recovery while navigating their own emotions and challenges.

Support does not always mean having the right words. Sometimes, it means listening, being present or helping someone take the next step. It also means recognizing that caregivers need care and support themselves. These conversations remind us that no one should have to navigate a difficult health journey alone.

TP Wears Pink: Spreading awareness and showing support

Our offices turned pink as TP Greece employees took part in TP Wears Pink, wearing pink to spread the message of breast cancer awareness, prevention and support.

More than a way to mark Pink October, the initiative brought our people together around a shared message: taking care of our health matters, and supporting one another makes a difference. It was a reminder that even a simple gesture can help keep an important conversation going long after October ends.

Keeping the conversation going

At TP Greece, our commitment to health and well-being extends beyond October. Through initiatives such as our annual awareness panel, TP Wears Pink and our collaboration with Affidea, we aim to turn awareness into action and encourage people to make their health a priority.

Build to Last is more than a message for Pink October. It is a reminder to make prevention a lasting habit, give our well-being the attention it deserves and be there for one another throughout the year.

Because the habits we build today can make a difference tomorrow.
