Mapping Posidonia Seagrass with Aegean Rebreath: A Partnership in Action

A cornerstone of our environmental strategy is our partnership with Aegean Rebreath, which has led to the creation of the Water Alliance. This dynamic collaboration is attuned to addressing critical ecological concerns. Aegean Rebreath, known for its dedication to marine conservation, aims to transform local and national attitudes towards the marine environment.

Ongoing Initiatives in Markopoulo

Our recent project in Markopoulo highlights the tangible impact of this collaboration. As part of our program’s first phase, this project focuses on mapping and assessing the impact of anchoring on Posidonia seagrass beds.

During our second visit, members of HCMR and Aegean Rebreath used advanced tools, such as drones and underwater ROVs, to document both healthy and damaged Posidonia meadows. These insights will be instrumental in developing targeted protection and restoration strategies.

Next Steps and Future Goals

The assessment phase will be completed with a third visit that includes underwater dives to collect more data. We are committed to presenting our findings to local authorities through a detailed report, which will inform ongoing conservation efforts.
