Reflections on the “Work Buddies” Initiative

April 2nd, on World Autism Awareness Day, we are thrilled to share our reflections on the “Work Buddies” initiative, a collaborative effort between TP and Best Buddies, that took place during the last 2 months. At the heart of the “Work Buddies” initiative lies our dedication to creating a workplace where every individual feels valued, respected, and empowered to succeed. Throughout four insightful virtual training sessions, we learned about various aspects of inclusivity and diversity and gained knowledge to create a more inclusive workplace.

1st Session: Introduction to Disability and Autism

Best Buddies guided us as we explored the fundamentals of neurodiversity and autism, gaining a deeper understanding of behavior and methods of managing them through the exploration of neurodiversity and autism.

It was enlightening to learn about the ways in which we can create an environment where all of us feel comfortable and supported.

2nd Session: An inclusive work environment

During the second session, we discussed practical strategies to foster inclusivity in our workplace culture, as well as the stages involved in conducting a job interview, and ways to continue to foster inclusivity in the future.

3rd Session: Difficulties and Reflections

With the help of Best Buddies, we engaged in experiential exercises and reflected upon the challenges that people with disabilities may face in the workplace as they pursue a career. Additionally, we reviewed the importance of quality of life, human rights, and social integration to promote a diverse and inclusive society.

4th Session: Risks at Work

In the final session, we explored workplace risks for individuals with disabilities through experiential exercises to deepen our understanding.

Through open discussions, we brainstormed ways to mitigate risks and create a safer and more inclusive work environment for all.

Work Buddies Meeting

As a final step, we organized a “Work Buddies Meeting” to meet with Best Buddies beneficiaries preparing to enter the job market. During this meeting, we exchanged insights about TP’s work life and discussed their aspirations and ideas.

Α place where everyone feels valued

We commit to applying these learnings daily to keep TP a place where everyone feels valued and included. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated in this initiative and contributed to its success.
