As part of our commitment to health and wellness, and in the spirit of Pink October, TP Greece hosted a powerful panel discussion, “Strength, Survival, and Support,” just two days before Greece Race for the Cure 2024. This event gathered cancer survivors, medical professionals from Doctoranytime, and advocates from Alma Zois to raise awareness about breast cancer. It highlighted the importance of early detection, strong support systems, and personal resilience.

Through this initiative, TP reinforced its dedication to breast cancer awareness, focusing on prevention, treatment, and emotional wellbeing.

Raising Awareness: Why Early Detection Matters

The event began with an essential message on early detection from Dr. Sofia Balamoti, MD, MSc, EBCOG Oncoplastic Breast surgeon. She emphasized that regular mammograms, self-exams, and lifestyle changes are crucial in catching breast cancer early, when it is most treatable. Dr. Balamoti urged women to stay vigilant in prioritizing their health.

Connie, a breast cancer survivor, TP employee, and advocate, then reflected on how awareness has evolved over the past decade but stressed that more progress is needed. She emphasized the importance of education, urging women to make early detection a top priority.

Real-Life Stories of Treatment and Hope

Next, the panel explored treatment options, with Dr. Balamoti outlining the latest advancements in breast cancer care. The real impact, however, came from the personal stories shared by survivors. Dimitra Aggelopoulou, Vice President at TP in Greece, and an active member of TP Women, spoke candidly about the challenges of undergoing treatment while managing her professional responsibilities. Her message was one of hope, showcasing how modern treatment options enabled her to balance her career and personal life during her battle with breast cancer.

Balancing Work, Life, and Emotional Wellbeing During Breast Cancer

A key theme of the discussion was how breast cancer affects not only physical health but also work, family, and emotional wellbeing. Connie reflected on balancing her career and family responsibilities during her treatment, sharing how her advocacy became integral to her healing process.

Dimitra Aggelopoulou emphasized the incredible support she received from her colleagues and family, which helped her navigate the emotional and logistical challenges of her VP role while undergoing treatment.

Strength, Survival, and Support Discussion

Vasiliki Konstantinopoulou, a marathon runner, and cancer survivor, spoke about how physical activity served as her outlet during her journey. She shared how staying active helped her cope with the stress and uncertainty of her experience, resonating deeply with the audience and illustrating the power of physical and mental resilience.

Coping Mechanisms and How Survivors Found Strength

When it came to coping strategies, each survivor brought a unique perspective to the table. One common theme emerged: the power of community and support. Whether it’s from family, friends, coworkers, or even online followers, having a strong support system is essential when facing a diagnosis as life-altering as breast cancer.

A Commitment to Breast Cancer Awareness

TP Greece’s “Strength, Survival, and Support” panel was not just an event—it was a powerful call to action. We are committed to fostering a culture of care, supporting our employees, their families, and the wider community. We encourage everyone to stay informed, assist those battling breast cancer, and act—whether through regular screenings, emotional support, or raising awareness.
