Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Self-Care Comes in Many Shapes

Alma ZoisGreece’s Race for the CureHealth & Well-Beinghealth and safetyPink October

At TP in Greece, prevention is a language we speak fluently every year! Committed to the well-being of our employees and society at large, we actively contribute to one of Europe’s largest initiatives to raise breast cancer awareness: the Greece Race for the Cure®, organized by the nonprofit organization Alma Zois.

For 7 years, we’ve proudly supported this cause, and in 2023, we were recognized as one of the largest corporate participants, a testament to our employees’ dedication and involvement.

Our Commitment to Breast Cancer Prevention

At TP, our commitment to health and well-being aligns with the spirit of Pink October, a month dedicated to breast cancer awareness. Over the past 12 years, we have been offering free breast ultrasound exams to our employees, regardless of age or gender. Since 2021, every October, we’ve extended this initiative beyond our organization, providing 1,000 free exams to women across Greece. This ongoing commitment highlights our belief that together, we can create a healthier future.

Steps Towards Preventing Breast Cancer

While there is no guaranteed way to prevent breast cancer, adopting certain daily habits can improve overall health and reduce the risk of developing cancer. Here are some practical tips to help you take proactive steps towards prevention:

  1. Maintain a Healthy Diet

Eating a balanced and nutritious diet is essential for overall health and can help reduce the risk of cancer. Focus on consuming a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Limiting processed foods, red meat, and sugary drinks is also beneficial.

  1. Keep a Healthy Body Weight

Maintaining a healthy weight is crucial, as being overweight or obese increases the risk of breast cancer, especially after menopause. Regular physical activity and mindful eating are key to achieving and maintaining a healthy weight.

  1. Incorporate Exercise into Your Daily Routine

Regular exercise not only helps in weight management but also has been shown to lower the risk of breast cancer. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity each week, along with strength training exercises.

  1. Avoid Smoking

Smoking is a well-known cause of many cancers, including breast cancer. Quitting smoking or never starting is one of the most important steps you can take for your overall health.

  1. Stay Informed and Get Regular Screenings

Regular screenings and self-examinations are vital for early detection. Women over 30 should have regular mammograms, and everyone should stay informed about the symptoms and risk factors associated with breast cancer.

Together, We Take a Step Closer to Prevention

At TP in Greece, we believe that every step counts in the fight against breast cancer. By adopting these healthy habits and staying vigilant with regular screenings, we can all contribute to a future with fewer cancer diagnoses.

Let’s continue to support each other and raise awareness throughout Pink October and beyond.
